Mary Lou West of Mathematical Sciences examines
the chart generated from a seismograph in Richardson Hall that
recorded the earthquake in Mexico City last week. The seismograph,
which detects an earthquake's seismic waves, was built by Elias
Ahadi '00 during his senior year. The graph shows the quake measuring
7.8. West said the tremors took 20 minutes to travel from Mexico
to campus and were still strong enough to shake the second floor
of Richardson Hall.
