Notes:
1. The program is open to undergraduate students at US institutions. According to National Science Foundation policies, you must be an United States citizen or a US permanent resident in order to qualify for REU participation.
2. While no general restrictions on your background are placed, it is expected that you are a computer science, computational science, computer engineering, information technology, information systems, bioinformatics or applied mathematics major with at least one year of courses taken within your program of study. You are also expected to know how to program in at least one high level language such as but not limiting to C, C++, or Java.
3. You are expected to be a student in good standing at the moment you submit the application and during your participation in the REU program.
4. Your application constitutes commitment that, if selected, you will be available to participate in the REU site. This means that you will live in the MSU campus and work full time on the research project for the entire duration of the project.
5. To be considered, you must follow all the application steps and complete them by the deadline (March 20Th, 2009). This includes making sure that the copy of the transcript and the recommendation letter reach us by that date. Late applications may be considered based on an ongoing basis.

A transcript from your current institution. While official transcripts are preferred, unofficial ones are accepted. We will also accept an electronic version of the transcript. When an unofficial or electronic transcript is sent, we expect that, if selected you or your university will forward us an official transcript by April 30, 2009.
Complete the short survey available at https://surveys.montclair.edu/survey/entry.jsp?id=1232552836783. The access password will be sent to you after the application is received.
A faculty from within your department should send (by March 20th, 2009):
A recommendation letter supporting the application. A recommendation form is provided. The letter should be sent directly to us by the faculty in either printed or electronic form.
