InformationThe William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is an annual contest for college students in the USA and Canada that has been run since 1938. There are cash prizes for winners, although the exam is notoriously difficult. It takes place on the first Saturday of December in each year. The competition is open to regularly enrolled undergraduates who have not yet received a college degree. No student may participate more than four times. At Montclair State University, we will try to prepare students in a friendly environment for the exam. This page will be used to schedule preparation sessions and post practice problems. Please email Jonathan Cutler if you are interested in receiving emails about practice sessions. The 2009 Putnam Exam will take place on Saturday, December 5 (10am–1pm and 3pm–6pm). The registration package must reach California by October 13, 2009, so please let Jon know if you are planning to take the exam by Thursday, October 8.
