Mapping Changes in Shrub Abundance and Biomass in Arctic Tundra
using NASA Earth Observing System Data: A Structural Approach

Objectives

To provide new ways of mapping shrubs in arctic tundra (estimates of fractional canopy cover, canopy height, and aboveground woody biomass) over large areas and at low cost by exploiting the directional signal in NASA Earth Observing System data from MISR and MODIS. Our results are documented in these pages and in our publications. An important motivation for mapping vegetation in the Artic is given the here, at the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio.
