canopy cover, height, and aboveground biomass maps, produced using the same approach but for
Rocky Mountain forest and assessed against CLPX lidar data. New work (12/08-01/09) has revealed that
the multispectral An (nadir) camera data are not helpful in estimating a dynamic background.

The three source MISR data sets:
- Multi-Angle Observations (mao)
- Nadir view MISR data (An camera) and
- AMBRALS outputs from inversion of the LiSparse-RossThin BRDF model using the MAO data
are available on the code page.

Compositing: We obtained good results using 3 MISR data sets for each orbital path (AZ1, AZ2 and NM). The criterion for combining
these was min(RMSE) on fitting SGM to the data: a minimum error compositing technique where the model inversion with the lowest RMSE is
selected. This removes data contaminated by clouds and other atmospheric attenuation anomalies very effectively. To date, we have found
that the 70 degree zenith angle observations are essential for retrieval of canopy height; excluding the MISR D cameras only
fractional cover can be obtained. This precludes retrievals in areas of extreme topography owing to shading and view obscuration. This page has the graphical model used.
