Synopsis: EUGS 270 provides an introduction to the principles and practice of Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies, with a focus on digital mapping and cartographic science, including graphic design, spatial data portrayal and inquiry, map overlays, and applications. The course includes 2 hours lecture and 1 hour practical work per week, with students expected to spend an additional 4 hours per week (at a minimum) in the GIS lab. Students will sit one mid-term and one final exam, about 12 lab exercises, and one term paper or course project.
