Details: see the MSU posting or view below. Knowledge/experience in BRDF modeling would be very useful.
Post-doctoral Researcher at Montclair State University: Remote Sensing
12-month position
Start Early 2012.
In support of the NASA-sponsored research project: "A Decade of Changes in Aboveground Live Standing Dry Biomass, Canopy Cover, Height, and Understory Density in the Southwestern United States from EOS MISR and MODIS".
Eligibility: PhD and interest in: moderate resolution remote sensing of vegetation canopies, modeling, large-scale mapping, numerical methods; advanced computer programming skills required (familiarity with C, IDL, Unix environment).
Desirable: knowledge of multi-angle remote sensing theory, techniques, and algorithms; modeling of the BRDF/canopy reflectance, advanced mathematics including non-linear optimization methods; geospatial statistics and modeling; image processing; statistical data analysis; and atmospheric modeling in the solar wavelengths for the correction of satellite-acquired remote sensing data over land.
Duties: manipulation of large volumes of data from NASA Earth Observing System satellites; development of appropriate science algorithms; to contribute substantially to the preparation of manuscripts for submission for publication in leading international science journals (including first-authored manuscipts); and to provide limited assistance to graduate students who are engaged to work on aspects of this project.
If qualified and interested please contact/send resume to Dr. Mark Chopping via chopping at pegasus period montclair period edu
See the main GK-12 site. Some additional information is here.
For remote sensing research opportunities under this program, please contact Dr. Mark Chopping (chopping@pegasus.montclair.edu). For other disciplines/research areas in STEM areas, please contact the project director Dr. Ken Wolff (wolffk@mail.montclair.edu). DEADLINE: ASAP/May 1, or as soon thereafter as possible.
Characterized by a distinguished cadre of teacher-scholars, a strong general education program, and a deep commitment to the values of multicultural diversity, Montclair State University is located 14 miles west of New York City on a beautiful 200-acre suburban campus. Additional information can be found on the MSU website at www.montclair.edu.
Almost completely faded into history...
May 2006: A research assistantship with stipend is available from Spring 2007. Please
contact Mark Chopping.
April 2006: A graduate assistantship is available for a student to work with
Dr. Mark Chopping
in the EAES Remote Sensing Laboratory (20 hours/week). Please contact Dr. Chopping
(chopping@pegasus.montclair.edu) as soon as possible if you are interested. Note: if
you are not already registered as a graduate student, you will need to apply to The Graduate School to be accepted into
a graduate program. Application via web form ("online application") is available.
Appropriate programs include the MA in Environmental Studies, the MA in Geoscience,
and the Doctor of Environmental
Management (D.Env.M.).
In August 2005 one of two assistantships originally available was filled: Mr. Robert Teeter was selected for the University GA
position.
We are seeking a visiting scientist to work with Drs. Mark Chopping and Lihong Su at Montclair and external co-investigators at the USDA and NASA/JPL on this
NASA-sponsored research project. Duties will include collection of validation data (databases, field data, maps) to strengthen our work on multi-angle
measurement for vegetation structure and community type mapping in Desert Grasslands, as well as various image processing and interpretation tasks. This is
an important element in assessing our success in applying multi-angle remote sensing techniques; the recipient must therefore be competent in remote sensing
and GIS and have excellent practical computing skills, as well as a demonstrated interest in remote sensing of arid and semi-arid lands. Remuneration is
approximately $4k per month, excluding health and pension benefits.
If you are interested in the position please send a resume to Dr. Mark Chopping
(choppingm@mail.montclair.edu), preferably via e-mail, or by regular mail to: Mark Chopping, Earth & Environmental
Studies ML350C, Montclair State University, 1 Normal Ave, Montclair, NJ 07043.
